My brother was woken at 5am this morning to a Renault Megane on fire on his neighbours path, he alerted them and dampened the part of the garage that was catching with a hose until the Fire Brigade came and put it out.

Car is a total loss, newish Megane Scenic, the attached garage is charred, the Gas company had to come out to deal with the leaking gas pipe it caused.

The Police reckon that it was a failed theft attempt and to cover fingerprints, a car was broken into over the road as well.

This could well have set the house on fire and potentially killed a family of four, anyone heard of this before, fairly certain its deliberate, the other car broken into suggests it wasnt personal.

If they catch whoever done it, they deserve to be put down.

Glad everyone is ok though.
They tried to steal a Renault Megane. I would have thought the shame would have been punishment enough.

Seriously though, what can you do? We are too far gone now - the scum have comprehensivly out bred the decent citizens and the human race has now split into two distinct branches. The sterlisation theory I presented to a international panel of eminent world leaders and scientists may have been derided at the time, but the prophecy has been fulfilled.

I am sure minimim effort will be put into finding the young scallywag resonsible, and even if he is caught, the laughable justice system that we have in place that limits the powers of the police and the magistrates to dish out just desserts means that his 'troubled upbringing' will no doubt be taken into account - along with 4 children he has fathered via 4 different, equally sub-human mothers who will become fatherless if he has to spend time in prison watching DVD's and playing Grand Theft Auto on his tax payer provided playstation.

In the meantime, a family (and their home) could have gone up in flames. I love this country. God bless the UK and all that steal in her.

i'd be willing to bet the police know exactly who did it and where they live.

They usualyl do, and let's face it this is not the most common modus operandi for a failed theft. using gloves/hat would have been far more sensible, so we're not talking rocket scientists here.

will anything be done? not a chance

May be connected to my brothers petorl tank being drilled a few months back.

As for the Megane "Nothing to see here" comment, plenty of people buy them and they are quite happy with them, the car wasnt the issue, would you be more sympathetic if it was an M5 ?

What a complete arse.

We had a house almost go up at work a few weeks ago. Someone thought it would be funny to set fire to a wheelie bin outside an OAP's bungalow at 4am. By an unhappy co-incedence, the bin was in front of the gas meter box...

By a stroke of sheer luck a passing Policeman spotted the fire and got everyone out of the bungalow and those nearby.

Why would somebody try to steal a people carrier though? Surely even the old ones have an immobiliser don't they?

A few months ago I drove past a scenic which was also a burnt out shell. Maybe there is an inherent electrical flaw causing the fires..

get them to setup CCTV, fake or real doesn't matter over where they park their cars.

and make it very very obvious it's there. that way they will be more inclined to go for a different car, and hopefully leave that one alone

I've got a close friend in the Police - it's surprising but a lot of stolen cars are people carriers. The scumbags use them to transport all their scummy mates, and when they go off burgling other houses they can carry more stuff. They're known as 'Community Cars' by the Police because they all use them!

Car thieves should be put in a massive blender and liquidised if you ask me.
