Really like the look of the above looks substantial but very elegant - not cheap. £1.5k seems to be the going rate

This watch clearly in a totally different budget doesn't look in pics too different to the Omega £110 only!

So chaps care to reciew these two and is te Omega worth more than c13 times the rotary?? How does the rotary feel does it feel weighty like I imagine the omega does.

  • Seamaster Pro is a classic design and had tens of millions of pounds in promotion/advertising budget to make it so

  • It looks similar because Rotary has copied the basic design which is common practice for them

  • No this Omega is not worth c13 times the Rotary. But this one is worth c22 times the Rotary.

It depends what you are looking for in a watch. If you want status and to impress then it's got to be the Omega.

The Rotary will be a very good watch, the quality of materials will not be up to the standard of the Omega but nevertheless will be more than acceptable.

It is really down to personnal choice.I have owned several high end watches but one of my favourites at the moment is a watch that cost me £47 !!! If you spend thousands on a watch the expectations are obviously high.If you spend a small amount on a watch it is easy to be impressed by it.

They both seem expensive, I paid £1400 for my automatic Seamaster chronograph. I'm assuming the black is more expensive than the blue?

Also, I'd be looking at the Oris diver watches as I think they're a bit more unique looking as the style hadn't been copied as much as the Omega Seamaster.

Thats also a hell of a lot for a quartz watch. I can't really add any more - Omega classy but overpriced. Rotary - will probably last as long and be just as accurate, they may even have the same quartz movement. I'm sure someone will come along and confirm deny that.

They really are chalk and cheesse and can't compare them. I personally wouldn't pay the Omega price for a quartz, but thats me.

As others have said, Omega auto would be worth the money but not a quartz.

Rotary watches are stly made. Omega not. Depends what you want really. I paid c2.5 times as much as the rotary for my second hand omega.

It's all up to you. 90% of people wont pay any attention to what you wear and those that do wont care anyway.

IMO buying a Quartz watch that is only really expensive because of the brand is a bit daft. I have a Quartz seiko sports watch and a few G SHocks but I bought them for a purpose beyond "looking nice" - my Omega is a PO auto because its just a big lump of jewellery that needs winding up every day so hardly ever even has the right date on it!

Im just searching online.
Everyone seems to quote the exact same price which is probably enforced by Omega or they stop supplying.

I know I just want to check them out online.
For me going to the shops is literally most of Sat gone, Id rather have keen web prices with low overheads.

Can you recommend any good sites offering good prices apart from all the ones which always pop up on google and are the same price RRP.

Keep an eye out on here you can pick up a 90's omega for £700-£900. If you wanna take the risk like I did and get a well worn example privately you can get them for a good bit less.

I got a nice 90s bi-metal Omega Speedmaster for about £700 all-in including the watch, a new leather strap (I don't like bracelts) and an Omega deployant.

Disagree. I have two. Both as fresh as when I got them 4/5 years ago. If you can put snobbery to one side they're great pieces.

After the war Rotary were a well respected manufacturer but their standing in the market has diminished over the last 10-15 years. My dad had a rotary watch which I still have which must date from around 1960 and I also have a gold rotatry from around 1980 both of which still work perfectly. As you say they will never satisfy the brand'ists but I am sure that as everyday watches they are fine.

I have the automatic Omega. It's a lovely watch but is it worth what I paid for it? I think so but my friends think I'm mad for paying more than a £50 for a watch.

The basic difference is that the auto has lots of moving parts that is powered by the movement of your wrist and a the quartz has less moving parts and is powered by the battery. This is my basic understandin and I'm sure more knowledgable people will correct me or explain further.

I bought mine new and got 20% just by asking at Goldsmiths. Personally I would buy a used example in good condition which can then be servised and polished if you want.

Price wise a private sale of used auto would be around £800-£1000 and a quartz at £500-£700 depending on condition. This is for the older 'bond' version with the blue face so not sure about what you would pay for the black faced version.

Other brands to consider are Oris, which do some nice peices as do Longines and TAG. Whatever you buy, make sure you bargain hard and you should get a discount (unless you want a Rolex)
