I read the article - seemed a likely story - then watched the video.

WTF?

The Clio couldn't have had its handbrake on. But even so, just how hard do you have to hit a stationary car to throw it that far (bearing in mind that van doesn't weigh much either)
And surely the front of the van would be in a terrible state, airbag deployed etc?

Breaking News - Parked Car hit by Another Car.

Now, is this story in the news because it is genuinely newsworthy or is it in the news because there happens to be some TV images to show?

Dunno - but if I had posted it in GG to discuss the physics of the incident - which was the bit which I found curious) no doubt some over-zealous Mod would have moved it here because it links to a news site.

Can't win.

I wasn't objecting to your post being in the PH "News" section. I was wondering why the BBC news site thought it was newsworthy in teh first place.

I think it's there purely because they have some images of the incident and no other reason.

Just saw this video - very odd. Anybody else thinking he should have got a ticket for parking opposite a T-junction and with 2 wheels on the kerb?

Actually, I did think the van driver may have thought that it was inconsiderately parked and gentle moved it out of the way....

Yes but I have given up asking why the Police 8ignore this obstruction. In every town and every street cars are allowed to park illegally with no consequence. Except if a mother and pushchair are in the road in consequence and struck by a car. Then all hell breaks loose.

It is inconsiderate driving and therefore could result in a 'failure to act with reasonable care' prosecution but I think the Police have just given up. Rather like flashing rear lights on bikes. Illegal but who cares?

EricMc is correct too: I think this is on the news because of the availability of the pretty pictures. That is the sort of media we have.

I just think it a bit odd the van comes back on the wrong side of the road and hits

the clio and damage appears non existant to either vehicle ,yet the clio is written off .confused

Then the article says van drives off smoking..........have they not heard of diesel fuel ?

So I guess you didn't get a ticket for parking with those two wheels on the kerb then........
