What's the chance of me finding one of these and how much would I be expecting to pay. Not sure on the models in particular but I'm liking the chronograph one I've seen.

Consider one found, and about $1000.

Although the Caribbean used a front loading robust case to do the 1000m thing, I don't think it was the first as described in the ad., the Sandoz Typhoon came out in 63/64 and was 1000m rated; this was a few years before the Jenny.

Just out of interest smile

Was it? I've kind of sold the idea to the missus that as we're Carribean descendants having a Carribean watch in the collection is a must. I think she's at the point of not caring anymore.

As I understand it the front loading Caribbean case was designed and manufactured by Jenny (now Doxa), and sold to other manufacturers to brand/ assemble.

Is the Sandoz Typhoon in a caribbean case or is just front loaded case?

I think the Typhoon was just a front loader, the case probably Benrus - (which they may have 'borrowed' anyway?), but it actually says '64 on the ad so looks like they were both at around the same time anyway. The Typhoon had a screw in the case back - I haven't seen definitive evidence either but I understand that it was considered to be either a rudimentary He valve or part of the case construction; both explanations seem weird in some way.

I just had a check and can't see a link between them, here's a gaudy pic anyway:

(It appears the screw is to access the stem release clip as the movement is accessed through the front.

The backless case was trendy arround that sort of time, the Aquastar Glasstar has a front loading plastic case biggrin

Those Sandoz Typhoons are so funky, like a cross between a retro dive watch and a Corum Bubble. i have never seen one for sale tho frown
