Hi all!

We're currently looking at moving to the Basingstoke area (buying) and were wondering if there are any areas that are recommended, and any that are best avoided?

So far we've found affordable property around Popley, South Ham, Worting and Beggarwood, and although the homes look nice, we don't really know the area that well so would appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Avoid Popley, South Ham and Oakridge. Beggarwood is OK as it's a fairly new development.

I'd go for the area to the south. 'France' I believe it is called.
Lychpit has nice-ish areas if you are after smaller houses. Some bits of Brighton Hill are OK or see the above post.

South and West in the sticks is very nice though!
Candovers etc

Liz Hurley is from the cheap side of town, (she also manges to gloss over that fact fairly often!), that gives you an idea on the type of 'tramp' crumpet to expect out on a Saturday night.

Best place in Basingstoke?

The major roads out of it wink

If you've got the money, Chineham is quite nice.

We've had an offer accepted on a place in Beggarwood biggrin

Cheers for the advice, strangely our new home to be is cheaper and larger than the places in South Ham and Black Dam which were in slightly 'council' areas confused not sure what the catch is but it's lovely biggrin We did have a look at places in Chineham but for our budget there was not a lot available. Saw a place over in Winklebury too that was nice, however the estate agents were playing silly buggers and lying about higher offers etc Was up for £180k, now they've put the price up to £210k laugh

Thanks again for the help! Looking forward to the snow this year seeing as Basingstoke seemed to be the worst hit ealier in the year hehe

check out the Lasham Road to Alton you wont be disapointed. RE Snow same road to alton and then head over to odiham and you will find the hills each side covered in people on sledges and skis etc.
