Ferrari 360 Modena v Porsche 997 GT3
Discussion
A generation apart, but are these cars comparable?
With 997 GT3s looking to probe the £4x,000 region soon (I think) and very good examples of 360 Modenas going for similar money, which is the better buy?
Mostly city use (unfortunately!), with the more than occassional spirited drive in the country. Probably no track days.
I have driven a few 360Ms and enjoyed them, but never a 997 GT3. The 997 GT3 is almost a decade younger, so is there really no competition? They're only a few dozen BHP apart and I suspect, similar weights?
Interested to hear some views.

My Dad has said the 360 Modena felt slow and poorly built even to his Carrera, and was simply on an uncomparable level to the 996 GT3 he drove on the same day. Perhaps he just drove a bad one, but I'd say 997 GT3 all the way. The GTx models are indestructible - the initial extra cost would definitely be made up for by its reliability.
Interesting choice.
The 360 is more of an event every time, sounds fabulous , feels exotic and if you like fettling, washing it and, well , posing , then its great.
GT3 is much much better made in every way, faster by some distance despite the apparent closeness in outputs (ferrari horses and Porsche horses are different breeds from this era certainly), handles better and is much cheaper to run. But in London the clutch will be an issue as will grounding on speed humps. they are very low at the front, more than the 360.

Let's not worry about mundane-ities like costs etc smile.
Though, on a costs sort of basis
, the 911 has a little more to lose and the 360 is pretty much there.
Let's just focus on the experience!
You can enjoy a drive through traffic in a nice car that feels special, and arguably both these cars are.

- however If you are in the city mostly you will be exercising all the steering components, the cooling system and the clutch/box etc, the porsche will be more robust and better value on wearable parts I would have thought.
