Car Audio help please, anybody local?
Discussion
Is there a local PHer who can offer me a hand please?
I have a Euphonic Edition mx5, with sony head unit and 6 speakers all around.
The right door speaker has stopped working, I am sure it is that one. I can get the door card off and I don't know if the speaker is knackered or the wiring.
Rather than going to Halfrauds I was hoping someone could help.
In Luton by the way, a nice bit so you should be okay
Payment in beer tokens or similar.

There are a few test to do,
1.Gently press the speaker cone in with your fingers it should move smoothly and spring back out to it's original rest position when pressure is removed, if it is solid or makes a scratching sound the voice coil is burnt out.
2. Remove speaker from door and measure the resistance using a multimeter, should be around 4ohms.
3. Pop test the speaker using a 12V DC supply e.g from the car battery, when shown 12V the cone should pop in or out dependant on the polarity. ( Do not leave speaker connected to 12V supply, just touch it and it should be evident if it is popping or not).
To test the wiring remove the h/u and repeat the same tests on the channel for that speaker, if speaker pops and shows approx 4 ohms the wiring and speaker are both OK and issue is with the h/u.
