x300 Failed MOT options

Im currently scratching my head as to what to do with my lovely but mot failed 97 jag xj6 4.0, it looks great but has failed on the inner sills on both sides and 2 tyres (+ 2 silly minors, number plate spacing and rear plate illuminators) , the sills are my main worry as i have no idea on the real cost or hassle of replacement, its not a job i can do myself but the car seems too nice to scrap, im open to good ideas or even offers?
I suggest you start by taking it to a local Jaguar specialist and getting an estimate for the repairs. They may be able to give an "order of magnitude" estimate over the phone or email given sufficient information and knowledge of previous jobs. You need at least that estimate in order to make a decision.
If the cost is more than you're willing to pay, offer it to a few Jaguar specialists. The 4.0 straight six X300s are generally very reliable and one of them may want to repair it and sell it on, assuming the rest of the car is in good order. And they will pay you more than scrap value.
Next option would be to offer it to a Jaguar specialist breaker - they will offer you much less but again more than scrap value. Parts for these cars are in demand - I know the body panels and interior trim parts are - and are not always available from Jaguar.
A generic car breaker should be your last resort IMHO. Putting it through the auctions or WBAC isn't worth bothering with - you will be lucky to recoup costs. A private sale might be possible, but few private buyers would take on an X300 that requires sill replacement to get through the MOT.
Obviously, keep an eye on the amount of unexpired MOT you have left. This will determine whether you can keep the car on the road and the validity of insurance etc.

What is the value of the car with an MOT ? If its more than 2000 then i would say its worth repairing.
I would guess from sill replacements that I have seen on XK's that you will be looking at £800 for cutting out the old, replacing (means making by hand) new sill section inner & outer & respray. This would be from a reasonable quality bodyshop, but not the best.

We have recently had a XJ6 in the workshop that failed the MOT with the same problem (no not what we usually do but we know the owner). He had the problem on one sill by the rear door.
We cut out the panel and welded in a new piece at £100 +vat. Depending on how big a panel you need I would look at paying around £100 - £200 ish.
