Hi had my Tuscan 5 or 6 years now , lately had more night driving than usual and realised that these replacement bulbs are rubbish after driving my Vw caddy van made the tuscan look like I had glow worms in the lenses.

Any suggestions for better bulbs or good upgrades /

Thank you in advance

Rod.

Just had the Tam headlights upgraded with white HID's, LED sidelights going in next week, don't know about the Tuscan, but the Tam needed additional wiring looms to stop the dash "blowing up", £100 for the HID kit and looms plus 3 hours labour

No extra looms needed! But you do need the complete kit not just the bulbs (kit consists of two bulbs and two ballasts which has wires attached, I went through two 2 set before I got the right ones (due to bad quality kits), I ended up paying £35 for a slim ballast kit on ebay and it's been perfect. And it's a really easy job, once you have the main bonnet off! smile

Have you guys fitted HID to main beam and dipped bean? or just to main or just to dipped?

Also am I right in thinking its the H4 bulb type?

I've just changed mine and they make a big difference but i got terrible interference on my radio when there on. I have now removed the aerial from inside the wing and have run an aerial extension cable from the back of the radio to the boot and installed a new aerial in the little compartment above the fuel tank. The reception is much better and no interference from the HID ballasts. Also the aerial connection in the wing was rusted due to its location which would not have helped.

Just thought i'd pass this on incase anyone else has a problem with it.

Chris,
Could you give me some part numbers for this conversion, please.
I've got an '04 S Mk.1, so the main beams are already HID. The ballast/ignitor for the main beam is fitted on the hatch on the inner wing, an I'd quite like to put the new ballasts in the same place.

I take it that there are installation instructions supplied with the kit you got?

Hi mate,

I don't have a part number for you but any 35w kit will work, you'll need H7 bulbs and you'll need to choose what temperature rating you want, 6000K is a nice white light 8000K starts going a bit blue (some people like this). I would recommend a digital slim ballast kit so it should fit nicely and I have found the digital kits are a bit more reliable! Ebay is you're friend and i've seen kits from as little as £13.99, which is a crazy price, in fact i've just bought a set to see how good they are, the only problem is you have to wait a couple of weeks as they come from Hong Kong. Worth the wait as most UK kits come from the same place and people charge up to £100.

Fitting is very straight forward and some kits i've bought have had diagrams and some not but it really is an easy job. You shouldn't need to cut any wiring but you will need to make a hole in the rubber diaphragm to feed in the new wiring which is supplied with kit.

Let me know if you need any advise and also contact RobMod as he has just done the conversion with no problems. Mr C

Thanks for the reply Chris.

I'll start trawling ebay and see what there is. I may well come back to you.
Cheers again.
