just bought a 300zx. why i hear you ask. well 3 factors. 1, it was cheep £700 for a twin turbo with a slush box. 2,import with 78km on the clock and loads of jap service books. 3 think it could make a interesting winter track project. her in doors is doing her head in this is the 4th car in the household.budget will be strict on this. only going to be able to spend £1800 max on bits. so eBay will be preferred shopping point. so i'm thinking sticky rubber, remap, disks and pads, some home made induction, serious stripping out, and a race seat. what do my fellow PHs think
this is not my car. but is identical to it.

Just about every one of these gets modded in some way. I do wonder whether in a few years time a clean original one will be a rare classic

Back in the day my dad used to import all these sorts of motors, RX7's Supras 300zx's scoobs etc.

These are bloody quick for relatively little outlay now 10 years ago you would have paid about 10grand for that.

I remember having a tuned manual 300zx in stock at one point (can't remember what it had done to it and we didn't know the power output) but we raced it against my dads 69' Stingray and the thing pissed all over the 'vette.

Had no idea these were RWD! Why on earth did i think they were FWD or 4WD?

Nice shed, will be interesting to see what weight you get it down to.

Always wanted one of these, but bottled out due to difficulty working on the engine.

Bought a skyline instead

Still want one now........

Always liked these, but, like the Supra, attracted those who thought it wasnt distinctive enough and they ruined a great many of them, they lost their gentlemans fast, sub supercar feel and got a bit tragic middle aged bling fest with chromaflair paint, big wheels and Veilside nastiness, so now am original one looks clean and fresh.

When they were new I wanted one but couldn't afford it, so settled for a 200sx, which was a very entertaining car. It was K reg so one of the later of the hatchback shaped ones

my goal is to have it ready for knockhill 4Th of December track day. will prob still be in bits lol. my mate got it fired up last night. took a bit more checking than i thought. anyway had it running for over a hour. no overheating issues just now. same mate knows a old uni pal who is japanese so going to try and get the history translated. took it for a late night blast up and down the local road. legal i know but it was after 12 midnight. box changes ok,brakes are shot ! so will be trawling the eBay listing for some this week. this weekend is a stripping out affair. all seats, carpets, door panels, and stuff like that. and a good service. then start buying and fitting bits. do leave the glass panels in the roof or take them out and become one with the elements ?
she's alive !!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I can't really see the point of spending £1800 trying to increase the performance/handling of an automatic but each to their own!

I occasionally see a convertible 300ZX around. While it's clearly a DIY job, it doesn't look too bad.

dont think i'm going to spend that much. a stopper upgrade and rolling road session, sticky rubber and a racing seat and that's it. purely a track toy
