Is it a clutch or an on / off switch.......
Discussion
Finally got the tuscan running under its own steam today, which I'm dead chuffed about since its the first time its turned a wheel in over nine years. Trouble is that the clutch is a 71/4" double paddle plate Tilton unit.
Stalled it 4 times before I found the bite point. Does anybody else run a clutch like this and how do managed a bloody grid start?
Engine starts on the button although one of the carbs needs a little more work as the pump jets don't seem to work even though I've fitted a new diaphram. Mechanism doesn't seem to move as much as the others so I'll look at that again.
Engine was running sweet until I heard a horrible metal to metal grinding and grating noise coming from the front end. Thought the engine had lunched itself at first. My grandson said he thought the noise was coming from the water pump area, so I took the belt off and the noise went away. Suspect the impeller / bearings might FUBARed so I'll stick a new one on. There is a bit of play in the shaft, but not much. Temp went up to 100 deg C fairly quickly but the rad was cold probably confirming the impeller is buggered.

[quote=Keithyboy]Pete, that flywheel must weigh about 7 oz!
. . . bet its free revving though . . . does it have any torque at all
?
The flywheel is about 4kgs and when on the rolling road at Owens, Mark said it was one of the quickest revving Cossies he has mapped and he has done a few. The torque is not that bad at 280 lbs ish. The clutch weighs more than the flywheel and needs about 4000 rpm to move the car in the paddock but I like it. The only problem is loading the car on the trailer at home it gets a bit noisy
