I know this is a dumb qn, but it's been nagging at me, so going to ask anyway. I Assume that the enabling of DRS is done automatically? i.e there are some electronics that know when race control enable and disable it, and then when the driver is in the one second window? - am assuming they are in ultimate control of the 'flap button' , but that (for example) if they were 1.3 seconds behind the guy in front, then it wouldn't be their judgement call?

I think how it works is: If the driver behind is within one second at the DRS detection line/zone then it is enabled, it is then up to the driver to activate it using a button once he has crossed the DRS activation line/zone.

Yeah its auto controlled - if the driver is more than a second behind you can press the button but it will not opent he wing.
