I woke up this morning with a pain in my right testicle and lower abdomen. I thought I'd slept funny and that it would go away during the day. It didn't. At half five I went to the local walk in clinic and waited for a couple of hours to see a doctor. He examined me and referred me to a hospital in Stevenage. I got the at about eight and waited to see the nurse and then a doctor. The doctor said I they had to call the specialist in from home. So i was sitting in a chair on my own in a room with no bed, my wife texting me trying to arrange a baby sitter to look after my one year old daughter, with the prospect of a emergency operation under general anaesthetic (suspected torsion of the left testicle). I was alone and scared and there were tears. They moved me to a more comfortable waiting room and I had to resort to emailing the wife as my phone died. The specialist arrived and fortunately it looks as though it's an infection. Going to get an anti-biotic shot and some pills. I have to spend the next couple of days with my feet up.
What's the point of the post?
1) I realised how much I love my wife and daughter.
2) despite all the stick it gets the NHS is a wonderful thing. From being at home to seeing a specialist in about 4 hours. I think thats pretty impressive especially when you consider it is available to all. I know it's not free but tonight I am happy to pay my national insurance.

After spending nearly 3 days in the Royal Marsden critical unit earlier this month, I feel really sorry for everyone there that gets bunched up with the classic 'NHS is rubbish' chatter. It's simply not true. It's not perfect, in fact far from it, but it's still bloody good.

P.S- Hope your bks get better biggrin

Some parts of it are bloody awful. I know a cancer outpatient who would get better attention from a vet.

frown Bad times. The person I was with had cancer and the care was incredible. Anyway...the idea was to give some balance at least smile
