It really depends what you mean by "project".
How much work do you want to do? You should manage to pick something reasonably decent for that money if it needs work, welding, paint etc
If you are something thats MOTd etc at that money you might struggle to get something interesting.
I would reckon, an old Ford maybe mk1/2 Fiesta? Obviously not Escorts for the price.
Maybe a BMW E30, this would be my choice although look out for rot.
Some weird Jap thing would be cool but maybe harder to find.

ETA, MX5? rolleyes

At this low level best to just look on Gumtree / Ebay and see what comes up, rather than trying to find a specific model.

Iv always liked the e30's ill have a scan and see what's about, like the idea of a rwd again. I don't mind a bit of work but would rather one or the other ie paint or welding. It's a big ask really for the price but iv got the space so I thought I'd try my hand at my first proper toy (without hitting the wallet to hard) although I know one end of a spanner to the other and have friends in all the car trades so that will help...

I get the feeling thats running a Mondeo engine, which could be tuned further for more fun. Also, it's a 90's Ford so welding experience would probably be good
