What sort of prep do you guys do for a track day. By which I mean;
1.Insurance
2.Is there anything for the other half to do whilst your on track.
3.Fuel
4.tyres,
5.tools, jacks etc etc.
6.If your just driving your car there what do you do for all the back up stuff. I come form many years of Rallying so would normally have my transit and trailer and a few mates.
7.Helmets.........presume there compulsory, what about clothing.
8.Do you get a brief about the rules and the track before hand.
Do how do you all manage. Lot of questions from a track Day rookie I know but I would love to know.
Thanks.

1) some policies cover track-days, some companies offer it as a one off per track day, some drivers don't bother.1.Insurance

2) there is a limited cafe/diner on site. There may be go-karting or off-road driving etc available. Or passneger laps with you or any other driver willing to take a passenger.
3) fill up before you get their, there's no fuel on site, the nearest petrol station is a few miles away, you can take jerry cans and get the other half to look after them, that should help keep her entertained

4),5) If you mean to change to track tyres, i.e non road legal then you'd best check with the organiser that's ok, and you will most likey need tools and a jack to change over. Though a tyre changing/fitting company has been known to attend some track days.
6) depending on the 'day' and organiser your stuff will/should be pretty safe if left in the pit lane, but it would give the other half something else to do if you take her/him.

7) helmets are compulsory and are available at the track, maybe for a small fee. Long sleeves required for open top cars, IIRC, no other restrictions.
8) normally yes.
HTH,
I've not been to a track day for a few years and I've not driven my own car on it. Rules may change depending on who the organiser is.
For folks that weren't there - a truly stunning day for November and not even cold. Frustrated by electrical gremlins though and ended missing out on the first couple of hours, and then having to run without instruments. Wasn’t so worried by the loss of a rev counter, but temperatures and pressures would have been nice to have.
Anyway, got a few sessions in towards the end and mechanically at least the car was running OK. On the bright side I used a quarter of the fuel I expected.
For folks pondering KH track days, here are a couple of in-car videos – the first was getting out for the first time, probably about 2:30, and the second is a bit later behind a rapid Evo spitting flames out the side and a Supra (at least I think it was a Supra). Everyone very courteous on track; just would have been good to get some more laps in on such a nice day.

A couple of photos from yeterday:

Willie lifting a wheel at the hairpin!

Retro "feel" for a retro car

Tried some very slow panning shots, 99.9% didn't come out

Oops!

Wet patch on the turn into McIntyres gave rise to some sideways moments!

Minis were entertaining to watch!

A few Imprezas on track

Scott Robson's Time Attack car back on track for the first time in over a year after an engine rebuild. I was lucky enough to get some passengers laps towards the end of the session

Bright orange Caterham was were vivid in the low sun!

Wallace Performance EVO

There's a couple more here if anyone is interested:

Great trackday yet again. Usual very high quality track etiquette and manners. It was a slippery day early on but the track dried out (apart from River MacIntyre
) and the pace increased.
My vids from the day;

Session 4 is the longest and the best from my point of view. Really got into a groove.
