The windows on our VXR8 don't always work.

It started a couple of months ago, with the driver's window not going back up when the switch was pulled up, though if you pressed the switch down to lower it a little further, it would then go up when the switch was again pulled. I thought it was just a dodgy switch, but after yesterday, I'm not so sure.

Yesterday, the passenger window wouldn't close. I tried opening it a bit more, but it still would not close. You could hear the relay clicking under the dash, but that was all. After I stopped, turn the car off, and re-start it, the window worked fine.

I was wondering if (hoping) this could be a dodgy relay. The fault is very intermittent - only having happened 3-4 times on the drivers window, and once on the passenger side. Has anyone else had the problem, and if so, what solved it.

Cheers

No, driving along, and they wouldn't close. It was only when I stopped, turned the engine off, then started it again (resetting the electrical circuits), that the window would again rise.

Had a similar problem on our other car and it turned out to be the window switch itself that needed replacing

I know, but my nearest VXR8 service centre have only just got approval, or I have a couple of hours drive. The former may have a problem with diagnosis, the latter will cost me more in petrol than the cost of a relay. Just because the car is under warranty doesn't make it the easiest or cheapest option.

Thanks for that. Could you still hear the relay clicking under the dash?

Ancient thread resurrection!

Araf - did you ever sort out the intermittent problem?

I've had a very similar thing happen a few times now, seems like the passenger window doesn't want to close sometimes.

I was going to have a look in to it today but not risking a window stuck open in the rain!

Cheers

On the senators you could re set windows by keeping holding the button down longer after it was closed and longer after it was fully open I don't know if that will help

Yes. I flogged the car. Ute windows are fine. biggrin

Sorry, but no. It didn't happen often enough to pull the car apart, and there were different ways of clearing it, which could mean there was more than one fault.

1/ If the window didn't go up, you could wind the window down a bit more, and then it would go up.

2/ Next to try was stopping, engine off, engine re-started, and then window up,

and the worst was

3/ Stop, engine off, keys out, door open, door closed, lock, unlock, keys in, engine start, and the window went up.

It also wasn't just one window - it could be either or both of the fronts. I don't know about the rears, as they never got used.

Sorry, and good luck with getting yours sorted.

If the switches are in usual silly place on centre console ? Lift out the console and make sure switch connections are tight,

Thanks for the replies.
I think it's the switch, wiring or the relay then. Sometimes I do the auto down and then can't stop it before its got fully open by lifting the switch .
Aren't intermittent problems fun!

I do like the utes though haha smile
