i seem to recall asking about this last year, and a Pher popped up to offer his services. i can't seem to find the thread in question, so i'll ask again.

i want to know the cost to ship a car [ro-ro preferred for cost reasons] from either montreal or the US east coast to dubai. would also prefer the company to handle customs clearing at this end.

any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Hi Shirt

I'm about to head to London but when I get back I'll dig out the details of the people I used to ship my 911 from the US. I got various quotes in the US but ended up with those recommended by the dealer and had no problems. I used another company to clear customs this end which was remarkably straightforward.

It took 3 trips on the back of a tow truck to the RTA to get it registered, but that's another story.

Cheers,

Martin

PS I'm tempted by a TR6 with the same dealer (Specialty Sales - great guys to deal with) so we may be able to share shipping costs

Hi Martin,

I'm not sure we could share a container anyway. I'm certain I read somewhere that they only allow one car per container in the UAE. Stupid imo.

What was the sticking point re: the RTA?

Chassis number stamped on car had 3 zs as fillers as it was a whitebody car, where these get populated once Market is known, as the numbers are different for a US, European car, etc. Other chassis numbers (not stamped) tallied with the paperwork but they were only interested in the stamped one.

First chap I saw told me exactly what paperwork I needed, which I got with the assistance of the dealer in the US and Porsche USA (both of whom went out of their way to help). Trouble is, it was addressed to "to whom it may concern" and the muppet I saw the second time refused to look at it because it wasn't addressed to him personally.

On my third trip down the first chap I saw spotted me, came over to ask if I had the right paperwork and got it all through in about half an hour.

i would say i'm surprised, but i'm not! i think all arabs are descended from small town parish councillors. a little power and they'll use every last bit of it in the pursuit of pedantry!
