Windscreen displays
Discussion
Not sure if this has already been covered, during a recent uneventful drive from Essex to Plymouth last week (taking daughter back to uni) we got discussion the various places that driver had stuck their satnavs, one particular numpty had it top left hand corner of screen (galaxy type car) so obviously great for passenger had there been one !!!!
Anyway back to discussion with said daughter, we were wondering if any manufacturer had look at flightier plane type of display that projects info directly onto the windscreen, personally I would have thought it was reasonably easy to organise and would greatl reduce the need to look down at a small screen, no reason why speedo and other data couldn't also be displayed this way
Any clues chaps

That BMW picure is poor. You only ever see the rectangular surround in bright sunlight.
The HUD shows speed, navigation directions, check control messages, cruise set speed, speed limit and, on the M5, selected gear and (in M mode) rev counter.

This one looks interesting

That's on the new 6 Series (and I'd guess the M5). It's the next generation on from the one I have on our December 2010 X5. It looks impressive.

Also if you have an iphone (not sure about android) you can get Ihud which on full brighness goes on your dashboard and reflects off your screen.
Not a brilliant idea in the dark I wouldn't of thought.
only used it once.HUD works very well day or night. You can dim the display and change its position on the windscreen.
Corvette has had HUD for a long time - I think it was the first production car to have it. Display shows speed in digits, rpm curving up from the left and also lets the driver to choose which other gauge to show. Set to oil pressure in this image and status indicated by the vertical bar on the right..
