Three police cars in very close convoy.

Hello.
I have just been cycling through Felixstowe and was overtaken by one police Volvo, followed very closely (1-2 metres) by a very large police van (unmarked but blue lights) and marked Discovery. All three had lights and sirens going and were traveling through a 30 zone at around 20 mph. They were so closely spaced, I initially thought the Volvo was towing the van. Any idea what they could have been up to?

I'm guessing there was some "precious cargo" in the van and they did not want anyone to get in-between the the van and the leading/trailing car(s).
