As I remember, one of you chaps managed to cut a hole in the bellhousing to gain access to the clutch release arm...

Currently looking at buying an old Range Rover that has a bent fork...

Any pointers as to how much to cut out, and where would be helpfull.

I cut mine where the LR stamp is, I only cut about 2" bit the T5 bell housing has at least a 4" hole.

You can change the fork on a T5 box through the access hole, no cutting required.

You may have the earlier box.

Wedges were never fitted with T5. Only LT77 was used on the V8 cars.

I also seem to remember that the Range Rover has a very different bellhousing because of the transfer box.

Cheers guys, the Box is an LT77 but on a Range Rover. I think the bellhousing is different, as the slave is on the passenger side, and it's mated up to an old VM 2.5Td boat anchor engine...

Hi Steve,it was me who done it on an lt77 bellhousing coz the ARM came off the release baring,I remember drilling an 83 mm hole on the embossed stamp on under side of bellhousing. I can let you know later the precise point of the pilot drill if it helps, probably no reason why it couldn't be slightly bigger hole for fatter hands as I used my son to get in there, think he may still be there!
John.

Cheers John, I knew someone on here had done it.

It hasn't gone totally tits up on the Rangie, but the clutch is more digital than analogue smile

At least it's a negotiating point when I go and view the old beast.

realise you have not bought it yet but its easy and hard.

i simply cut a square with a grinder (cutting out a sqaure around the BL logo) kept the bit for fitting back in later.

then it took me a day and half to locate the bloody arm, it took gaswedge 10 mins, he did the same thing.

best of luck

The Rangey bellhousing is indeed different - it is a lot longer.

There probably isn't a BL logo and if there is probably in a different place so it's not a good way to pick the point to do the cutting.

How much of a hurry are you in? I am just about to pull a V8 engine and box out of an '86 rangey and will split them, so I can take photos inside the bellhousing if that would help.

Adam,
I've not even bought the vehicle yet, so no hurry. If and when you get the chance pictures would be useful, thank you.

I do have a video borescope that I can use to check it out as well
