Hello, Iam from the darkside (chimaera forum) iam buying the girlfriend an elise on Saturday, just wondered when the cambelt should be changed and any other little bits to look out for. I won't be driving it myself as I drive a real man's car a TVR (only joking I test drove an Elise and its the best car I have ever driven, but don't tell anyone).

GGRRRRRRRRRRRR real men don't drive Elise's

54K miles/5 years for a std 120bhp until this year

Sport 160/190 were 36K miles

Lotus service bulletin was out a few months back that they now recommend 48K miles or 4 years IIRC

cheers

sounds like you might be on the raod to conversion mate. Cam 4 years, niggles mostly periferal apart from well documented head gasket failure. Significantly less time in the garage than trev tho'.

Bet you drive it more than she does

Well it's funy you say that. She was looking at a Toyota mr2, know I use to drive the mkII turbo version which was quick, but the new mkIII is pants. Not only does it have the performance of a modified milk float there is less storage space than the Elise ie no boot at all. We test drove one and I was very dissapointed.

I managed to convince gf that Toyotas were un reliable (yes i know the most reliable car in the world) and what she really wants is an Elise.

Head Gasket blew 3 months ago on my Chim 3 weeks later (lazy dealer) and £800 poorer I got it back
