Anyone know where the water in my pasenger side footwell could have come from ?Its not a lot but I read that it is quite common ,is there a particular place it may be getting in the car I had a rain resistant sheet over it at the time but it was a heavy downpour.

Clouds??

But seriously, you'll have to sit in the car while it rains and look for the drips.

In the mean time take the carpet out to dry it out so it doesn't rot. Maybe put a rubber mat in there.

It commonly runs around the rubber draught seal and trickles over the top of it at the bottom of the door, if that makes sense... there's a dodge involving putting a nick in the rubber and gluing the resultant edges together to provide a drain channel.

Check yer flaps....
When the lid is up the hoop hinge point should have a flap to keep the h2o from the drain channel on the hoop to go outside the door seal. If it gets onto the inside then the cut outs will help as mentioned.

Also water proof the fabric to improve run off. If it gets sodden it will osmosis itself inside the car.

Flap, outside door for the picture
Cut out in the door seal

It was leaking in through my door seal, runs down the outer frame and then crosses between loose fitting rubber where it grips the body and down into corner of door frame onto carpet, also had a leak on heater matrix on the soldered joint of pipe spigot that hoses attaches too,I thought it was where windscreen wiper spigot pops through body.
