Baxi system boiler cutting out

Noticed the water has not been as hot over the last week. Put it down to weather but now it's freezing. Water was set to constant but boiler lights for "pilot light" and "burner" were off. Turned it off and on. No changed. Left it off 5 mins then turned on. Fires up but after a min sounded rough and cut out. Auto re ignited but same again. Did this twice and then stayed off. Any ideas?!?!? Not looking forward to a cold shower tomorrow morning!

Had this with the old Baxi in a flat I owned on two occasions.

1st time it was the themocouple which is heated by the pilot light. It was shot and cut off gas supply - as it would normally do should the pilot go out. Cist about £70 to get it replaced.

Next time it was a faulty gas valve. That was more expensive - a few hundred anyway.

Is the pilot lit or is it clicking and not lighting? The spark needs to be just right to ignite the pilot, the electrode cable can get damaged or break down easily (or the connections can get corroded), also the pilot can get sooty deposits that stops it lighting. On some models the pilot ignition circuit can fail over time, but a recon board can be bought off ebay for £35 on an exchange basis.

(I'm not a gas engineer but I have a Solo 3 and have learned the various failure modes, in my case the pilot jet gets blocked now and then, a whisker of copper wire wiped around it fixes it)

Baxi Solo 2 by any chance?

Common faults with these are sticky fans and blocked pilot injector, although if it is lighting, unlikely to be the pilot injector.

Sounds like a sticky fan if it sounded rough. Can either replace the fan or give the bearings a good dose with fan lube, the latter will breathe some life into it, but will not last forever.

If its another Baxi, I'm out of ideas!
