Starter Motor needed To Get To Spa

Sods law, 3 days before we are due to go to Spa and the starter motor has decided to pack up. Has anyone got one lying around, or have one I could borrow whilst I get mine refurbed.

Can't Power or Racing Green get one out to you?

Well its not exactly lying around as its on the racer, but I know how that it could come off easily now.....just the Beds - Bristol logistics to sort

The bad news is I'm only 95% sure it works, I bough it working just not tested it since!

I'm in Cambridge all day tomorrow & live by huntingdon (Offord cluny) if you want to pick it up - intact I just noticed how local you are - if you want I could leave it outside my house and you just pick it up? Either of these is better for me than posting btw as I'm not really near a PO day-to-day!

Graham i have a couple. One definatly works and another that should work. Both are spares for the race car. Happy for you to borrow one but would need to be able to take it back of you over the weekend if somthing happened on the race car...

Firstly many thanks to Stuart for the loan of a starter, top man.

Secondly took the great leap and decided to change it myself, and after lots of swearing, cursing and poke and hope, I managed to get the old one out and the new one in. Started once and now just sits there spinning away. Will have to have another look tomorrow.

Only 1 day to go, I might have to bump start it all weekend.

I can sympathise with you on this one Graham, did my own too. After buying a 'used but working' from the classifieds, and finding it was in fact faulty, I bought a new one. Lost count of the times I had the various starters in and out, but as is the way with these sweet cars, the start button had decided to fail at the same time giving all sort of confusing reasons as to why the car would not start. You might have to get it out and lube it up a bit !!Sounds like its stuck in the disengaged position.

My old one used to spin away to itself sometimes even with the ignition off. Give it a wallop with a hammer and a metal bar, worked for me.

Oh arse. Really sorry

How many times did you try and start it when it just span? Just once, or many times ? Maybe you could undo the bolts, spray loadsa oil on the cog/bendix area & hopefully that will put enough life into it to get it working for you. The one on my car definitely benefited from the same.

Feel free to try tapping the solenoid area to try and free it up.

Right panic over, new starter motor (couried up from Race Tech) bolted on and hey presto it starts. Spa here we come.
