Playing basketball a week ago and some fat oaf trod on my toe...no real pain at the time (more annoyed e trod on my nice new Nike lebron 8's!

Home in the shower and realised my big toe nail was blue!

Pain has been mild since...in fact I've run on it and even played ball twice since (last night it got trod on again and that wasn't too painful). So....given the "not insane" pain but ongoing blueness......will my nail fall off or will the bruise go and all will be good?

And is my dads "in the RAF we drilled holes in things like that" advice any good? No idea why national service in the RAF resulted in bad toes!

had this about 3 times from football and being trodden on

The nail is dead and so a new one will regrow from the base.

From personal experience I would leave the old nail on as long as possible for protection

Full regrowth is usually 9 months

If the toe really hurts then pop the nail, if there isn't any significant pain leave it be.

Breaching the nail is only to relieve pain inducing pressure!

A tiny tiny drill. Or a needle. Depends how thick your toenails are!
