I have always liked drinking Coke, and more recently getting a taste for Pepsi.

Apart from the occasional Carlsberg or Belgium Beer (Leffe Blonde) and some Jack Daniels, I rarely drink alcohol but do enjoy a relaxing drink at home in the evening.

Can the PH Drinkers suggest some alternatives to try for home consumption.

Preferably not wine or wine based as I stick to my guns to have never bothered or wanted to get into wine culture. My parents are 'into' wine and it just winds me up.

Am I too young for Gin and Tonic ? (31)

You don't have to be "into" wine to enjoy it. I love a glass of wine, actually usually a bottle, but your parents would probably classify me as a wine heathen. Try a nice Sauvignon Blanc at around the £6 mark, and get it properly cold before drinking. Nom nom.

Even if I liked your suggestion I would feel awkward - I didn't even drink the wine at my own wedding.

How deliciously odd wink What is it that would make you feel awkward? If I'm just quaffing wine at home, I tend to stick it in a glass like this - no-one could really tell it's wine if that's your concern.

Just the principle - if I change tact I will feel like my parents have won. For so long I have been anti wine. Always said I won't drink it or get all obsessive about it like some of my peers, Rose this , Cabernet that , Plonk Plonk.

I do like the glass idea though. Takes away some of the pretence.

Hell no, I'm 25 and drink it all the time. Might be a Southern fairy thing though.

Used to drink a lot of Coke, gave it up for lent some years ago and managed to stay off it. Think it tastes horrible now.

Ah good man, I'm normally a lager fiend, just find G&T quite refreshing.

A good Vintage cider is delicious. Sainsburys English medium dry Vintage is currently 3 (750ml) for £5 and flies off the shelf, lovely stuff. Also Henry Westons 2010 Vintage, about £1.70 per 500ml. Note that both are quite high ABV so everything in moderation blah blah.

I tried a bloody mary once.

Took ages to get the taste out of my mouth.

Surely you'll enjoy drinks (and life) more if you care less what people think of you for doing it?

Love the Henry Westons vintage cider. Also icy cold Weissbier is a delicious treat. Vodka and fever tree tonic water is fast heading to the top of the like list.

Dear dtmpower,

liked now dislike: cola. Drunk gallons of the stuff as a youth, now far too sweet.
disliked now liked: red wine. Preferred white until friend had a good quality one and that was me hooked for life smile
liked, disliked then liked again: (after 35 years!) cider - weaned on it but first teenage overindulgence with technicolour finish so couldn't touch it for a long time, recently however I'm getting to sup again. It's my partners long drink so occasionally I'll take a sip.

Always disliked: gin, pastis, Martini.
Always liked: ale, lager, white wine,

Are you buying? smile

regards,
Jet

Away from alcohol I have never drank a cup of tea in my life.
Can't even stand the smell of it even when making it for someone else!

Can't stand whisky since I consumed rather too much of it once as a teenager. A kindly neighbour tempted me with a sip of something at £100/bottle but to me it just tasted like meths with a teabag.

As for the age thing, it is a pity that some 20-somethings have got stuck in their teen days. I attend quite a lot of wedding breakfasts and it seems such a shame, when everybody is eating nice food and enjoying nice wine, to see youngsters with a pint of lager because 'it's they only thing they like'.
