Well i say leaking, more like there are a series of small holes in it and it passes water rapidly one the pump gets going.
So to not fry the engine, i need this casing to be replaced.

Is this a difficult task to do or would it be easier to take it into a garage so that they can replace it?

looks to me that the fan needs to come out just to get at the plastic casing.
Here's a vid to show you where the water is coming out...i assume that this is the thermostat casing.

Yes that's the thermostat housing and I'm 99% sure when my mate did mine, he didn't remove the fan.

I beleive the entire cooling system on these will need replacing every so often

32mm reverse thread if you want to get that fan nut off, although it often needs a shock or something to hold the pump part as it'll spin on the belt.

A lazy option would be to remove the fan blades if you can get to the 4-6-ish 10mm bolts onto the viscous coupling if you need more space.

The rad has already been replaced, that was 10 years old.

Miniman, how did your friend do the replacement? Also where did he get the part?

Parts came from GSF Car Parts - casing and stat came to about £40 IIRC. Not sure how he removed it to be honest, but he does have a knack of doing things in unorthodox ways. I will ask him but won't see him until later in the week.

Thanks Miniman.
Will take a look at GSF now, but no rush as the car is quite happy to sit out the front of the house - hardly use it anyway, now that i have a motorbike.
