Changing To Biological Washing Powder ?

Whilst growing up my mum always used non-bio washing powders. Most likely due to my dad being fussy and complaining of a reaction to biological powder.
My wife and I have thus only ever used non-bio, especially since we had our daughter.
Now she is 1 and getting messy at nursery, the washing powder is not up to the job. We currently use Tesco Non Bio gel. It just doesn't seem to remove food or water based stains.
Is it safe to try the bio on the children's clothes and then rinse them again, or is biological a no go for kids ? Or is there any other ideas other then wearing stained clothes to nursery and binning them after a few weeks.

I'm resigned to the fact that the girls clothes will have food stains on them after a while. Sunshine is best at removing them - not much help in late September!
