An article in the Times today reports a study which has found that drinking between 4 and 8 cups of coffee a day significantly reduces clinical depression in women although no mention is made of the effects on men.

Decaffeinated coffee and other products containing caffeine failed to provide a similar result.

It is not yet definitively clear if coffee is helpful as a treatment for depression, but it might be worth trying if you do suffer?

Given a sample of one (me) I'd suggest not. I drink pints of the stuff (not instant). Then again I might have been lot worse without, so, err... Hmmm.

If I had 4-8 cups of coffee per day depression would be the least of my worries, I'd be a shakey wreck.

Once you get used to it you become a shaky wreck without. Not particularly healthy, I'm sure.

Like most things, fine in moderation, I believe.

As the article said, 4 to 8 cups per day. More than that could definitely have a detrimental effect.
