New to all this.

I've never owned a dog before, always considered them too much of a tie and too much hard work, but with my children growing up and now able to pursue more of an outdoor lifestyle, the time seems right.
After much consideration and lots of advice, I've picked a Cocker Spaniel - Show line, I know he's going to need a lot of exercise, and I'm ready for that, even to the extent that next years holiday will not be a beach holiday but a walking one in the Cotswolds aimed at dogs and there owners.
So here's Toby 9 weeks old.

So here's Toby 9 weeks old.
He is lovely, first thing you need to do is get him insured if you aint already(we use Tesco) and get yourself a good pair of waterproof hiking boots and a gore-tex jacket!
Being a lazy git our two Boxers have been great for me, you have to get out even when the weather is rubbish, in fact some of our best walks have been in the snow and pouring rain as you get nobody around for miles.
Enjoy every minute, bet you are back here in a few months with a second one

Welcome to the dog world. It's all downhill from here, but so worth it.
Also, if he's from show lines, it can be fun to go to a show, don't give a f**k about it, then win............. You will see all these people for whom winning is life or death (even though it's their dog and rockall to do with them!) and it's all the more amusing. Or maybe I am just mean.

Since posting that picture, Toby has very quickly gone down hill, just rushed him to the vets and it appears he has had an allergic reaction to his vaccination, I've been allowed to bring him home tonight, got to take him back first in the morning.
Very scary how a lively bouncy happy puppy can turn into a staggering, vomiting lethargic little thing so quickly.
I feel very sad for him, oddly both my children had an allergic reaction to their vaccinations as babies.
Oh and yes he is insured, but to be honest that hardly seems relevant at the moment.

Hope he is better very quickly If I ever need to put him in kennels then his vaccinations will need to be up to date, and whilst I don't plan to kennel him, emergencies do happen.
He had a settled night and seems brighter this morning, half hearted attempt to chase the cat which is an improvement, but he's certainly not back to full on puppy mode.
Not quite the start to dog ownership I was hoping for.

He's brighter today, been back to the Vet, have some antibiotics and have postponed his second vaccination shot, they did advise that if need be they can split the second shot into two parts.
Very pleased he didn't need to be hospitalised.
I've put him on small amounts of chicken and water, so will see how he goes, at least he's not stumbling around now.
I need to postpone the puppy socialising classes but, hope to pickup with his training later this week.
He certainly loves all the attention he draws!
