Manual seats - is there a trick to it
Discussion
My new 1 series has manual seats.
It seems that lifting the lever drops the seat, but to raise the seat I have to hold the lever while lifting myself.
I'm finding it a bit tricky.
It doesn't feel quite right to be hanging off the steering wheel or door handle to try and get the seat to lift to where I want it.
And if I want to adjust it just a notch up or down I have to do it again.
Apart from retrofitting electric seats has anyone got any suggestions?

I think the way you're currently doing it is the only way TBH.It seems that lifting the lever drops the seat, but to raise the seat I have to hold the lever while lifting myself.

Get ur seat to where u want it and never move it. Shout at people that do move it. Simple
+1 On that!. Why is it that after someone has moved your (manual) seat, the position you really want to put it back to to be ideal is always mid way between two set positions?. It wasn't like that before they moved the seat!.gizlaroc said:
Loose some weight!!
You must be one fat f***er if the seat doesn't come up without effort!!
Charming. You must be one fat f***er if the seat doesn't come up without effort!!

Are you light enough so that when sat on the seat it still rises when you pull the lever?
I guess being that light you must also be quite short, so you don't need to worry about trying to push it back down.
You don't need to be right out of the seat.
Just plant your weight on your feet and kind of hover by pushing down through your legs. It's surprising how much weight the seat will lift.
If you have a problem hovering then I suggest:

No simple answer then.
I'm very surprised that for a prestige brand it's such a pain.
My Audi has a similar handle, but pushing it up or down just ratchets the seat a notch or two up or down.
A much better way of setting the seat and it allows for some quite good adjustment with ones arse in the seat.
Oh well, apart from that it's a bloody good car.

Haha, it was a joke mate, hence the smiley. Are you light enough so that when sat on the seat it still rises when you pull the lever?

I'm 14 stone so a bit of a lard arse myself, I never have it off the lowest setting though, so haven't haven't really paid much attention, but do know where you're coming from. But I had an Audi before and that uses to have a lever that you pumped to raise/lower the seat, and my wife drove the car too and she is 6" shorter than me and it used to drive me insane adjusting that, took ages each time.

VAG ratchet style is better, but just get a car with electric seats!
a very big no no IMO!If you're over 6ft and drive a 1 Series or a 3 Series (E46 or E90), stay WELL clear from the electric memory seats... sure they're a luxury, but the motor box sits underneath the seat and means they don't go anywhere near as low as the manual seats. And when you're 6ft2, getting 2 inches lower makes all the difference!
They use the ratchet system on the Mini side of the family - will be interesting to see if this will come up on the F30. Highly doubtful as the F20 retains the 'pull-up' seats and the F10 has part-electric as standard
