i couldnt see this talked about anywhere but apologies if i missed it.

Tragic news, never nice to hear when children die in these circumstances.

frown

They are are saying the freezer was ultimately to blame, i would never have thought something like a freezer could cause the damage it did, im gussing it wasnt properly maintained?

But still, the damage is shocking.

Very sad.

Not as uncommon as you would think though:

Terrible.

Slightly confused though - when the neighbour heard the bang, the firemen were already there.

Would a £10 smoke alarm have helped?

It wouldn't have not helped.

Been to quite a few dwelling fires started by white goods now, hence my habit of turning off anything non essential at the mains whenever im out (and i'd turn the whole lot off if i could).

Ok, so we're all agreed (after eliminating double negatives) that a smoke alarm would have been a help.

Can't but wonder whether a blazing freezer in the hallway is going to cause some loss of life, smoke alarm or not. After all when the alarm is raised the natural action is to open the bedroom door - onto a landing thick with toxic smoke.

LOL. He used a double negative to catch out those who have had a long day most-likely dude -

"It wouldn't have not helped." = It *would* have helped.

Family died from "inhaling fumes". Mourners at funeral "urged to install smoke alarms".
