When I worked in Saudi we had a V8 Discovery as our runabout. First time I went over in about '98 it cost £6 to fill the tank (full-fat 4* too, no UL). A couple of years later Aramco (or the Royals) got greedy and put 50% on... so it cost £9 to fill up. The locals were up in arms (and let's face it, it doesn't take much for the teatowel and fanbelt brigade to get wound up and start loosing-off with AK47s).
Incidentally, when people witter on about saving fuel and the planet, maybe they could start by getting folk (I won't point the finger at a particular nationality but I aint' talking 'bout whitey here biggrin) in Saudi to turn off their engines - they leave them running to keep the air-con going while they're working outside.

Hi

I spent three weeks in Kuwait in 2000, and fuel was 10p a li and we ran around in Rangies.
Great fun adding up what Sadham had left behind in the 90's
