Hi
I have fitted new everything but master cylinder, bled the system 4 times but still have to pump to get effect, I think its the spring fully retracting the slave cylinders when pressure removed, the springs are fitted as per the book, but weren’t when I removed them
any ideas
Thanks
Neil

Have you adjusted the brake shoes up to the drums?

There is an adjustment length in the workshop manual.

I don't remember if off hand, but IIRC you adjust the length of the rod to give minimum free play on the pedal without the brakes draging.

There should be a lock nut that you undo and then you can lengthen the rod on a thread.

It's been a while since I looked at a Series.

Only other thing to try would be a pressure bleed (Ezi-bleed is very good) to make sure that you have all the trapped air out of the system.

I would do a search on some of the Land Rover forums for advice on Brake Bleeding on Series vehicles..

From what I have seen methods include clamping wheel cylinder pistons during bleeding and some rapid pedal pumping processes...

The Series 2 club forum has some good information on Brakes under their workshop wisdom section, including adjustments etc...

Sorry I cannot be more helpful as I am a few days away from having to do this procedure on my Series, so can only point at stuff I have seen rather than talking from experience..

Bleeding the brakes can be a problem, air likes to collect above the rear diff. I find pushing the pedal down hard and then releasing the bleed valve and the tightening the valve and then lifting the pedal helps but even so it's a pain!
