Hi all

Bit of a weird one here. On sunday, I spent the day at Yarwell pay and play site. It was dry, so a little hard, but plenty of wet/ watery areas and a bit of mud to go through every now and then.

As I had a colleague with me, and was showing him the ropes, I had the 90 in Low range, with the centre diff locked most of the day. When I took it out of diff lock, I had to reverse to get the light out, not far, perfectly normal like every other time i use it.

Upon leaving, I drove home (50 miles) in high range, with the centre diff lock OUT. It drove fine. We went home via the jetwash to have a good old wash down.

Sadly, when I got home, just as I was rolling into the garage, the diff lock light flashed on and off, not a flicker, a definite rhythmic flash. This was just as I was turning the engine off that I noticed. I'm working away, so have not run it since.

So - is this an indicator of a problem? Or have I just got some water in a relay or something?

Any advice appreciated

cpas

I must say that Yarwell is by far my favourite site around here. I too have a 1991 Defender 90 but it is off road at the moment frown. Your diff-light problem is probably water in the switch or in the wiring leading to it, or possibly the wiring earthing out somewhere (the switch works by 'closing' and forming a circuit to earth - so if the wire leading to it gets earthed out, it will switch the light on). As an aside, you are probably better leaving the diff-lock out for most of the time, especially when dry, and only engaging for a short period as required.
