Insurance Joke....
Discussion
29 year old male
7 yrs no claim
no convictions
held licence for 11 years
Currently paying £550 for a 1.8 05 Astra. Just phoned up my broker to get quoted on a BMW 330 Coupe..and my current insurer said no due to my licence?? and the next best quote was around the £2000 mark.
I know prices have gone up for insurance...but surely that price is a joke.

That seems very odd.
Have they perhaps got some of your details wrong?
It's not like the 330coupe is that much of a dangerous car.
I'd suggest sticking your details onto confused.com and seeing what comes back.
Good move as at least then you will have some ammo. be sure to check what they are actually covering you for though. Have they perhaps got some of your details wrong?

Also I had problems insuring my first BMW as they said that I had know experience in that kind of vehicle. as if a clapped out 318is is some kind of super car
VR
Im going to call back with the exact plate of the car and see if that makes a difference. I would expect the price to go up but not that much.
I had a look on confused.com last night at a BMW 330 Vert and that was coming back around £1k so would have thought the coupe would be cheaper.
Wanted to get a view on a couple of cars insurance prices before I changed mine. If the 2k is right then looks like im sticking with the Astra

Given that your Astra seems heinously expensive to insure for what it is too, I'd guess you live in a very bad postcode?
I'm two years older than you, but I only have three years NCB and a fault claim against me, and I'm paying less to insure my Elise than you are your Astra.
What does this: http://www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/post-code-rat... have to say about your postcode?

By the sounds of it you are with a broker who will quote at each renewal with the most competitive insurer for the risk that you have at the time.
All insurers have different target markets hence why compare the market came about. It just sounds as if the insurer you are with were competitive at the time because you met their criteria and now that has changed they are uncompetitive.
Also if you are insured with Chaucer for instance i know they will increase your premium by 20% just due to the car being new to you and that you have no experience in that car (which is a load of crap) alone. Not saying this is right. Just letting you know what i know.
Edit - Insurer's very rarely give us brokers good rates for anything other than boring cars unless you are an old fart.

I'm struggling to reinsure my 330ci Sport at the moment.
My insurance last year was ~£350 FC insured with NIG through Brentacre Insurance.
NIG have pulled out of private insurance so I'm looking for a new company.
Been on 2 comparison sites, Aviva, Direct Line, and Flux so far and the cheapest I can find this year is £950 with Admiral.
None of my details have changed.
I'm 32

Does seem very odd. My postcode comes in at 'B' which apparently is very good and low risk. I'm two years older than you, but I only have three years NCB and a fault claim against me, and I'm paying less to insure my Elise than you are your Astra.
