Double versus single throttle return spring
Discussion
Having covered 40k miles with a double throttle return spring I started having trouble throttling up from a cold start and my friendly mechanic commented that the throttle pedal was unusually stiff for a Chimaera.
I am aware that the cable end pip can separate under tension and that the cable / sheath interface can become sticky. I decided to re-oil the cable following a method I found on PH. Before doing so I removed one of the throttle return springs and tested how the car responded. Hay-presto the problems have all disappeared. Removing the excess tension has removed the sheath stiction issue and cold start is OK now because control of throttle fine adjustment is now possible. No oil needed.
My question is, are there any down-sides to running on one spring.

There is a 3rd spring if you look closely,
But two main ones, I lubed the cable and removed one spring and was happy with the results
I keep the second spring in the car just in case
IF! It stays open just turn the ignition off and push the clutch down
+1 I only run one. much lighter and I had the throttle stick open when it got caught under the mats, i just dipped the clutch as above. But two main ones, I lubed the cable and removed one spring and was happy with the results

I tried to turn a eurobox engine off that was on the side of the road revving it's nuts off when the cable snapped, it's woman owner shrieking in panic mode.
It was so hot and revving so high, it was still running with the ignition off, presumably dieseling!
I had to jam it in gear, dump clutch and sit on the brakes, still took about 10 seconds to die with the clutch slipping
!Malc,
This thread give some good tips, particularly the blue tac / funnel idea, wish I had read that before I spent hours dripping oil into the cable.
