You want something fast to drive, you want to be able to do long journeys, tour in comfort without fear of never reaching your destination and have real use of a real car, BUT you also want topless fun and driving for driving's sake when you feel like it.

You want it bad!

So...for UNDER £8000 would you have.....

This:

PORSCHE BOXSTER 3.2 S

Or, a SAAB 9-5 2.3HOT Aero >AND< a TVR Chimaera.

What would you choose?

Do you mean the SAAB >IS< the boring everyday hack (250BHP) or do you mean a third car?

I have an S2 Elise, and Clio 182 as my winter hack.

Does the job

Out of your choices I'd go for the boxster. Didn't like my Chimera, and the saab looks so dull I cant even be bothered to finish this sen

Mk2 MR2 and a Pug 205 GTI as the winter hack (hopefully).

ETA Saab and Chim if they were my only choices.

Yeah, it is the hack, swift enough but still boring, I agree... I thought you'd irrelevantly added a third car hehe

Saab & Chimaera every time.

Saab is actually not a bad drive at all and will eat up the miles in extreme comfort. Swifter than you'd think too, and you can leave it anywhere. Chim, well speaks for itself cloud9

I have always liked Boxsters, but I wouldn't touch a cheap/out of warranty one after having read some of the engine failure horror stories...

Heart says The Trevor and the Swede, but the head says get the Boxster. A TVR Chim is a great idea but it takes top money to secure a reliable sorted one and you would more than likely have to pay substantially more than a decent Boxster..and you cannot use a Chim every day, as even the most fervent TVR supporter would probably concede..and even using one as a second car you need decent reliability..

if you do go for the emotional choice I would definitely get a decent breakdown & repair cover..
