advice from car photographers needed

Hey everyone,

Just joined the forum after just recently seeing the behind the scenes pistonheads photography session (even though it's been on for a year!) but anyway I was just wondering if the photographers of pistonheads had any advice on photographing cars? I've recently started college doing a photography course at college and I enjoy taking photos of cars (especially my boyfriends mk4 astra gsi!) I asked a question similar to this on a photographers forum and they suggest I start with a flashgun, but I'm better asking someone with more experience in this area.
