Where to go after a budget change
Discussion
I loved my e46 m3 smg. It was just so good at everything.
But a change in circumstances and there for budget
Has resulted in a time away from the m power
I now have 2 options open to me
E36 m3 or e34 m5
What's best.
Should say I've had a 36 before and found it to be
Very dull feeling esp compared to the 46 but not as bad as the
Alpina b10 v8. Fast but just no feel?
Opinions please

Buy the best 3.8 E34 M5 you can afford, join us on the E34 M5 board and smile from ear to ear!! Great cars with very few problems. One is age, the newest is now 16 years old. Check the bills not the odometer. Make sure the valve clearances have been checked, make sure the car has had frequent oil changes and a good engine will take time to warm up, yes even in this weather.
Otherwise rust is a worry, check around the fuel filler and under the front doors where the jacking points are and the rear wheel arches. Remember that there is a long throttle pedal to push, car sings above 4000 rpm and check the EDC settings.
Magazines etc moan about EDC and the rear self levelling suspension costs but if the car has been well kept it is not a worry. The older 3.6's dont have the same issues up front, yet share a similar rear suspension design with sls .3.6's have a 5 speed box, less responsive brakes and are now 18 years old!!
Great cars to own, communicative, sporty even today but buy wisely and get to know your local M5 indy!! There is a poor buying guide in Total BMW this month, but a better one in Auto Car magazine next week
