Seems like a bit a of crap article as the statistics are so vague. Yes the UK is a horrid place, but I'd rather live here than the eastern block or Belgium.
Deed you just say...Belgium?!
So the only way to get a result for the UK is to lower expectations to basement level.
That's equally damning in its own way.

When do we officially stop blaming the last lot and start blaming the current mob?
If you really understood the size of the deficit you would not say that. The UK has a simply massive overdraft. We are paying more than £120m in interest every single day.
Growth has stalled. So paying the debt down, let alone the interest payment, is kind of hard.
Labour's spending is going to hang around this country like a weight around our neck for an entire generation. Children born now could well be in their late teens before we start to get anywhere in terms of paying it off.
It is not about bankers - that is just politicians trying to lay off the blame.
It is worth remembering that the banks were simply trading the debt that government had already put into the system as a deliberate policy to be popular. Sure, the debt went bad and the banks lost a fortune, but to blame them alone is to ignore the true picture.
Other countries did the same. But the UK were up to their necks in it more than most, and we squandered what could have been a pretty healthy economy. And the legacy that will last a generation is BECAUSE OF GORDON BROWN AS CHANCELLOR AND PM AND THE ENTIRE LABOUR PARTY.
I will never, ever forgive them until they say sorry and every member of the last Government has retired from politics.

Absolutely right! AW, heed the wise words of Frankeh!
ked us slowly over the course of 12 years to get us to this point, I'd say a while yet. It just amazes me that there still exist supporters for Labour after what they did to this country and Gordon Brown is personally responsible for a good 75% of that, IMO. Now he's been completely side-lined, I hope he's got lots of time to reflect on the way he utterly cobbled this country and its economy as well as his own career.
Btw, it struck me the other day how s
te Labour are at picking leaders, going from Tony to Gordon to this complete knobjockey, Ed "more cheese, Grommit" Milliband! It would be funny if it weren't so tragic.toppstuff said:

Mark my words, at this point they will be voted back in.toppstuff said:

I do understand the size of the debt and our inability to actually pay it off, something like a huge credit card balance and paying the minimum payment every month, so the outstanding balance just grows. The UK has a simply massive overdraft. We are paying more than £120m in interest every single day.

What other governments (Germany and France) did was pump money into manufacturing, so that their economy wasn't based on money for nothing, they have goods to make and sell. The UK hasn't learnt a thing and will end up at the bottom of the heap.
Labour assumed the wheels would never fall off (idiots) unfortunately they did!

But a lot of people saw a rise in there living standards, including those not working. The menial jobs were taken by immigrants, but that didn't matter as those who would have done the jobs saw their benefits go up. Cheap and lax credit gave them big TVs, footy on sky, and laissez-faire policing allowed low scale criminality to pay for the things that their bogus disability claim didn't quite cover. It just amazes me that there still exist supporters for Labour after what they did to this country and Gordon Brown is personally responsible for a good 75% of that, IMO. It would be funny if it weren't so tragic. The working classes (ie those who actually get out of bed) were earning 25k a year, living in a 300k propertaaay, driving matching recession white speedline Audis and taking exotic holidays safe in the knowledge that their propertaay was creating enough value on it's own to clear their debts.
Then the evil bankers came along and destroyed the prosperity and boom created by the economic vision of el Winko and Ed Nutsack. By some cruel twist of the electoral boundaries not being totally rigged to ensure a Fourth Brown Reich for a thousand years, a coalition was formed between the Dib-Lems and the Thatcher Party who have now taken away everyone's shiny things just because they are horrid people, and talk in that funny way people used to do when English was the country's most widely spoken language.
