He also goes for Richard Lambert, former editor of the FT and former Head of the CBI.

This is pure gold. The Eurocrat spouts unadulterated bks.

EU bureaucrats are not idiots, they are something far more dangerous - they are self serving to the core and don't care what they destroy so long as they are financially and politically better off. Much like trade union leaders.

One can't pretend to be any kind of expert on these matters, but to me it seemed like Oborne was just being gratuitously offensive. One can have a heated, lively debate with someone without having to resort to the lowest common denominations of "he's an idiot".

Needlessly disrespectful IMO, and actually undermined some of his more relevant points.

Exactly what I was going to post.

The eurocrat was there for the taking, and instead Oborne insulted him to make him walk. How can the eurocrat counter his arguments and then be shown to be flawed if he's left?

Here is the Spectator column co-written by Peter Oborne last week - "The great euro swindle". He makes some good points about the FT and BBC's biased coverage on Europe issues.

And here is the pamphlet he threw across the table (pdf format): Guilty men

Both worth a read, even if his language is "enthusiastic" at times.

It probably didn't help that Paxman addressed him as "Mr Idiot in Brussells".

You must be one of those mouth frothing left wingers who see Obama as the saviour of your beliefs..

(as opposed to us 'frothing Tea party' apologists...)

I agree that he went too far and would have done better to attack the guff being spouted by Mr Idiot from Brussels, bit it was clear that "idiot" was aimed at the general class of Eurocrats rather than the individual. The way he did it made it very funny though.

It's also too easy to forget that the standard mode of attack against Eurosceptics has always been to declare them to be mad.

The BBC and Europe won't listen to even mildly sceptical views on Europe, I therefore have no sympathy for the idiots in this case!

No, I just don't like him.

I think people like him view the world as black and white, right and wrong, which is IMHO misguided.
He's also incredibly rude and a complete arse.

I'm not sure I get your point? I made a joke about this forum and it is fair to say Sarah Palin is to the right of politics.

Besides, when someone believes in creationism they don't deserve listening too at all. She won't buy into MMGW because there is 'no evidence' to support it yet believes a totally made up notion of how the world came about.

However if I was ever in a TV debate with her I would remain polite at all times while disagreeing with her...
