GKN Differential Repair/Rebuild

Hi guys, I am starting to get strange noises from the diff on my 1992 4.3 Pre-Cat Griff, there is also evidence of a seepage of oil so suspect seals as well. I am a pretty competent DIY mechanic but do not want to start playing around stripping a more complex limited slip diff! Can anyone recommend a good but reasonably priced 'expert' who could carry our a refurb of my diff? I live in the Colchester area (Essex)so do not want to travel 100's mile to the other end of the country. Also,does anyone know of any data on the earlier GKN diffs, and is there any good instructions around on the removal of the diff from the car? The Steve Heath book does not go into any of the nitty gritty of removal nor does RV8 Resource. All the best, Pete

I have the early one with the fins so it must be the same as yours ..

Contacted Readman racing who use these for racing and when rebuilt there good for 450hp..

Had a quote for £330 ish ..for a rebuild .

These are slighly higher geared than the later diff.

Many thanks 'SiliconKid' have spoken with John Read of Readman Racing, nice helpful guy. He has quoted £350 plus carriage (£25) for a rebuild (bearings seals etc), once with him he will turn it around in 2 or 3 days, great stuff. I was quoted £595 for the same thing by a TVR specialist not that far away in Stansted with a 3 week + turnaround!! John Read said he actually does most of the TVR transmission stuff for other people as well. Great contact, shall now get the Griff on axle stands and remove the diff (after taking exhaust etc off!!!).

yeah, Bernie knows his stuff. (gearboxman) built my race tuscan box and diff and no problems for 4 years and it gets hammered from cold all the time.

Cheers Guys, have spoken with Bernie at CTS, nice fella, seems to really know his stuff. Will do my Griff GKN Diff for about £300 with £20 carriage, plus the usual Government Added Tax! I am going to take it off this weekend and get it sent to him next week. Regards, Pete
