I have just spent the morning welding up the worst of the holes in the floor and inner rear arches of my Citroen AX snotter, and I have to face the truth: it probably isn't going to get through the next MoT in January. All the underseal that Citroen lovingly applied in 1994 has dried out and cracked, and the water has got in underneath it. It's dead, it just doesn't know it yet.

I've had it nearly three years, done a lot of miles in it and grown rather fond of it. It has been a good and faithful shed, and I feel the need to give it an appropriate send off before it goes to shed Valhalla. So my first thought is to drive down to northern Italy early in the new year, fill the back with cases of Barbaresco, Dolcetto etc and drive back. One last proper road trip, and the saving on the wine will pay for the petrol.

I am however open to other suggestions. Nurburgring in an AX 1.0 would be suitably silly but probably not much fun - bit out of its depth, maybe. Budget for the trip - as close to nil as possible. This is a £150 car, after all.

My pet 1990's shed (by the same French company as yours) has been in a position to be written off three times now, but I've kept it going as I also have a perverse attachment to the thing. The steering is good and the power delivery (what there is off the stuff) is quite good too. The car also helps me blend in the nearby city better hehe !

Two days ago it was third write off time, but last night I've met a man who can so it looks like it will keep going again woohoo

It has been to John O Groats, but I fancy a proper trek to Scandinavia !

Offer it to the local Fire Brigade under the condition that when the destroy it, they let you watch and film. Then post it here and let us watch too.

If budget is a concern then I'd be wary of a huge road trip. Could cost you four or five times the worth of the car in repairs!

In a structurally dubious AX? Are you trying to get me killed?

I like that idea (not if you can keep the car going!)

As the OP mentioned shed Valhalla, this has got the car equivalent of a Viking funeral. Only you have to ask the Fire Brigade to have them all raise a Viking salute and have Viking version of a bagpipe send off, with rams horns of course.

Afterwards you grab wenches and drink merrily.
