Hopefully not a stupid question, but I’m interested in viewing a car. Just after something quick(ish) to run when the bike isn’t suitable and interested in this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-BMW-325ti-SE-3dr-Au...

I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but this seems a decent price/spec and it’s local so worth a look.

Anyway, it’s on NI plates and I’m just wondering is this likely to cause any issue. First off, will the usual checks be suitable, HPI etc. No details of the service history so just wanting a way t check mileage etc. Secondly, insurance; would this still be classed as an import?

Cheers,

Cramman.

The plates won't pose a problem for HPI if it's been on the car for a while.
Insurance won't be any different - it's a UK spec car (presumably).
Many NI cars go across to mainland dealers & individuals, without any issue.
The plate being dateless is a bonus if you feel you must hide the age from neighbours/colleagues.
As it's being sold by a dealer, ask them if they've HPI'd it or bought as a trade sale, assuming it wasn't already "imported" by the previous owner.

Pick up the phone and just ask the questions on your mind - it really can be as simple and straight forward as that.

Thanks for that. Just spoken to the garage, going for a look on Sunday so I'll see what I think.

I asked about the plates and they said that they put the car on NI plates, he said it's to make it a little more desirable, ie, hides the age. They say it can go back on the Mainland 02 plate.

Should this be a concern, seems odd.

Not if anything else doesn't make you reel back in horror first.
Similar trick used on the big 7's - many an '02 with a private or NI dateless reg belays the true age of the car, if paintwork is in tip top condition, etc.
Those who know the cars, will be able to tell if it's pre-facelift or the facelifted version just by looking, but others wouldn't know if it's older than its appearance might suggest.

Forget about the plate - just focus on the important stuff, given its age, service history, and mileage.
