I have a BMW with on condition servicing (posted here because i assume other makes have similar). The question is my indicator is saying new front discs and pads. If i change them myself is the computer wise enough to realise and re-set itself? I have noticed that the warning came on one day then whent away the next then came back on and is now showing 600 miles before they are due. I hate paying for brakes as they only take half an hour a side and cost half the price if you diy. I estimate BM will charge me about £500 for the front discs and pads.

I believe you will also need a new sensor when you change the pads. I think there is only 1 per axle if its the same as my e87. Google has some results for resetting e90 pad indicators using combinations of buttons, give one of them a go.. if not you will need a man with a box of tricks to reset it..

It's a sensor in the brake pad, and the light only refers to pads.

You normally only have one sensor per axle and clips in to the pad, shoul straight away remove the light.
