My Iggy Sport, modded in two days! (and £600)

Hi there people,
Thaught i,d join the forum and post a few pictures of my new car...a yellow suzuki ignis sport, i got the car three days ago, for the princely sum of £1060!!! it has 39k on it, and 11 months m.o.t.
I,ll try and put the pictures on in the order i did the work.... When i got the car it was 100% standard, so the first picture was taken on the drive home from wales,

The picture in the dark is on the way home from picking the car up, theres a picture after i had the windows tinted at shades in birmingham, theres also a picture of the full stainless sports exhaust system i hade made today at tip top performance exhausts in birmingham (sounds amazing, not to loud and chavvy..just nicely free flowing, and i opted for a standard looking tail pipe, so it looks standard)
Theres also a picture of the car yesterday when i debadged it,a picture of the wheels getting wrapped in some sticky yokohomas, it also has a K&N57i induction kit thats not in the pictures, and finally theres a picture taken today of the car with a carbon wrapped bonnet at shades in birmingham again, next to my other suzuki my 2011 sv650 (with full race system, velocity stacks, yoshi box tuned, pazzo levers, rearsets, and tinted headlight protectors)
Not bad for 2 days of ownership!!!! Strut braces are on order, and then it will be chipped, and hopefully that will be it!!! just enjoy driving it for a few years!!! In the two days ive owned it, i can happily say its the funnest car i have ever driven!!!! the way it corners is amazing...full on front and rear slides and so controllable!!! and i imagine with the new yokahomas on it will be even more fun!!!

Also, if anyone is reading this post who has owned, or does own an ignis sport, would you recomend going larger diameter and wider wheels? ive read mixed reviews, some people say it ruins the cars handling and ride and the playfull nature, other people think it gives more outright grip at the expense of the ride.
Any advice would be welcomed, as i have a bit of cash stashed away for either some coilovers or some wheels...

In pretty much any case, bigger wheels will ruin the ride. Also, being bigger and probably heavier, they are more than the suspension was designed to cope with, and may well spoil the handling. Adding coilovers will probably make your car quicker in the corners, but it will likely ruin the ride quality.

The IS was designed as a small, nimble and a nippy little car. It's never going to be a performance monster and adding big wheels and coilovers to something like this would just spoil it imo. A sports exhaust is all that the IS needs over standard!

Would be perfect if it wasn't for the fake carbon fibre, IMHO it's pointless and makes it look tacky and chavvy! All in my IMHO of course

I do like the car but as above the bonnet is awful, really doesn't suit the car. The white wheels are a bit odd too, gunmetal (not too dark) would suit the yellow better.

I'm sure it's a proper giggle to drive

I had one of these as my last car.

Exhaust - meant to have been developed by the Suzuki bike people as standard so doubt you would gain much performance there (although the standard system does rot at the hangers pretty quickly).

Induction - with a K&N cone filter you'll loose power as it sits right over the engine. Maybe have a look at the Suzuki Sport option which has a carbon airbox to help this - maybe get one second hand or try and make something similar. The standard airbox with uprated panel filter and the resonator pipe removed is also an option...

Chipping - waste of money IMHO. These are designed to run super unleaded as standard. I had mine on a rolling road and the standard map was smooth right to the rev limiter.

Wheels - White wheels are standard. Stick below 17". Do some research and get something small, Jap and lightweight. Team Dynamics multispoke wheels can look good too.

Thanks for your positive comments people the carbon wrap is obviously a taste thing!!

The exhaust, was because it was sooo silent, and being stainless it comes with a lifetime guarentee, and allthough the original was designed for performance, obviously it had to be as quiet as possible, so i imagine it will release one or two bhp??
The K&N tho, i think thats probably correct re getting a proper iggy carbon one, but theyre sooo expensive, but i,ll keep my eyes peeled!!!

And yeah, it was from wales!!! it was an ebay buy, From what the previous owner told me, the engine was boiled through a head gasket failure, and he then purchased an engine with 39k on it and swapped it.
The engine has deffinately been swapped (i know as i had to replace a threaded engine mount lol)
But its had fluids,plugs,filters and it runs as sweet as a nut, its going in today to have new rear disks,pads and rear wheel bearings.
Its awesome to drive!!!!!! really good fun!

its had a couple of engines, and been round a few people who have had more problems than it was worth with it!

seems to have all been sorted now though

the plans you have for it are good, bloody nippy little cars!

Wierdly enough, it was the actual car that "autocar" magazine tested when they first came out!!! If you type in "ignis sport" into google, its the first link that comes up, and thats my car lol.. GR03LWD.
I imagine it must have been mercilessly thrashed to have blown a few engines!!! as the m15 engines are supposedly very reliable if looked after, all in all though its in tidy condition now, a few small dings, but i had it properly checked over by my local mechanic and other than the engine mount and the rear disks and wheel bearings, he said it was in good condition, so hopefully i,ll have more luck than the previous owners!! (fingers crossed...touch wood etc!!!!)
Also if anyone has any parts (strut braces etc etc) please get in contact!!

Don't do it. Small, steel wheels are the new "big alloys" for those in the know.

A combination of ride and grip is more important than out-right grip and a terrible ride.

Tyres need only be wide enough.

That seems to be the common consensus, and one which i,ll think i,ll go with, i dont want to ruin the cars ability to carner outragously well and most importantly its FUN.
I think i,ll be leaving the wheels and suspension as they are, as its pretty firm on the ride as it is!
