Chaps,

Quickie.

I will be meeting some people at Heathrow in a week or so's time. I know what they look like, but Heathrow is a big place ...

They are arriving from elsewhere, and we are going on to catch a flight together from Terminal 4. We will therefore need to meet on the other side of security (as in, beyond security check-in).

I don't know Heathrow at all. Can anyone recommend a good rendezvous point for meeting people on the other side of security at Heathrow? (I don't know what gates we will be arriving at or leaving from.)

Thanks,

Oli.

I'm guessing you mean airside once you've checked in?

There will always be a Costa or Starbucks to meet at.

If you mean once you've come through security into arrivals then it's quite small and there is a Costa right at the entrance.

I think it's time to purchase a mobile phone.

He may have to purchase a mobile ... I considered posting him a SIM card but his mobile is CDMA not GSM.

He arrives at T1. We both leave from T4. There must be a suitable place to meet ... any ideas?

Hello all.

I'm the one flying into Terminal 1 and meeting Oli at Terminal 4. We're flying in from the US. I'd like to know whether it will be necessary to clear UK Customs and security to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4. Or is there some secure provision for terminal to terminal transfer? Any information will be helpful.

Thanks very much.

After you go through T4 security you are faced with a right or left turn. If you turn right there is a Garfunkels restaurant. at the end of the moving walkway thingy with both a coffee bar and a seating area right in front/to the side.

There's a million places to agree on but this is an obvious spot.

You will have to pass through UK customs and immigration then recheck bags - just follow the connecting flights, should be easy enough.

T4 is the opposite side of the airfield though, so it will be a busride over (15mins at a guess). T4 is usually quieter though and quite eash to navigate airside so finding each other should be no problem. However, seeing as you'll both need to pass through T4 security you could just meet at the entrance point to that?

Isn't the Heathrow Express free for transfers between 1-3, 4 and 5?

I wasn't sure if that was an option or not - but the bus is definitely free of charge! If Heathrow Express is free that will be quicker for sure.

T4 terminal maps: http://www.heathrowairport.com/assets/Internet/Hea...

There's only a single security route through T4. There's a Costa if you keep heading straight on which would be a decent place to meet.

Mr Bloody Septic,

This looks like a mighty fine suggestion from miln0039 (thanks miln0039). Shall we go for it? Entrance to T4 security? (OSSLT)

You have to take the bus for that and not the Heathrow Express I believe...

Thanks for all your replies.

zcacogp and I did manage to connect at Terminal 4. I arrived from the US via terminal 1. Hopped on a bus to Terminal 4. Arriving at Terminal 4, it was necessary to pass through security. This is a separate security barrier for transferring passengers different from the one people would use who walk in off the street. It was not necessary to clear UK passport control or Customs. After passing through the transferring passenger security to Terminal 4, we strolled up and down the secure shopping mall and happened upon Mr. and Mrs. zcacogp chatting with some other acquaintances they come across.

Thanks again.

Clearly some of the remodelling changes at T4 have caught me out - sorry if my advice was misleading. I was convinced however you'd have to pass through UK Immigration on arrival, but maybe I'm just thinking of what happens when I've passed through the US in the past!
