I'd like find a gold ring which may be 1-2" under a gravel drive (it was lost in the area about 8 years ago).

I have no other need for a metal detector so am happy to buy s/h from eBay, but would be grateful for guidance as to model, type etc as I have no idea. All it needs to do is find one gold ring just below the surface.

There is a metal detector club in Norwich, why not e-mail their chairman, might even have a member living nearby to you;

Shouldn't this be in Finance? You're going to take your 'investment' straight to Cash Converters with a 500% ROI over 8 years, right? wink

I'm Essex but I'd rather find it myself than call in help.

Thanks for the offer though I'm not in that area until next spring. It's not urgent so perhaps I'll get in touch then!

How deep do you think the ring is buried?

A cheap one from Maplins will be fine if it's less than 5 inches deep.

Hadn't thought of Maplins... http://www.maplin.co.uk/search?criteria=metal+dete...

They go from £20 - £490; will they all find a gold ring 1-2" down equally well?

I wouldn't like to say, as I haven't tried any. It also depends on the sort of material it is buried in (gravel/sand etc).

It might be worth sticking a post over on www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk nice chaps they are...they regularly have visitors in your situation and advise accordingly HTH smile
