Yesterday at about 6pm, on the M4 around J19. Six vans, all white with a small blue and white chequered 'belt', no markings but blue lights going. All doning about a ton. I think the first five were Renualt Masters, and the last was a Trafic, but I'm not 100% on that. Anyone have any idea what they were?

I could tell you, but then unfortunately I'd have to kill you.

The doing a ton bit is most curious.

Otherwise i'd guess MP or maybe something to do with nuclear materiels.

Could have been a QRF for pretty much anything: prison riot, infrastructure defense, training exercise etc.

Movement of prisoners has some pretty strict guidelines, hitting the tun is certainly out of the ordinary so probably wasn't that.

I was actually turning off at the point I saw them, so it may not have been a ton, but they were definitely doing 80+, and clearing people out of lane 3

Can a Master van even reach those speeds?

Are they for hire? hehe

Anyway, I don't believe you. They never move over for me!

If the blue and White chequered 'belt', was absent from the Masters, I'd be able to tell you what it was.

Odd as it sounds.

I saw a similar convoy some time in the last week. Can't remember where it was, but it wasn't on the M4.

You're more patient than I would have been!

Seen a lot of these unusual convoys on the motorways. A couple of weeks ago I saw an LGV sandwiched between two Met range rovers resolutely in the middle lane of the southbound M3 in Hampshire. I should imagine what was in the lorry was quite important.

I had a single white ni-roof Ford Transit with blue lights on but no markings charging up the A12 from the M25 to the last Ipswich exit the other day at about 6am, it was going flat out hitting 90 at times. I have no idea which service it was - it defintely had no markings at all. (NM07 O**).

This, and what the OP saw are most likely to be high profile prisoner movements which the Police carry out as opposed to one of the MoJ contractors who, carry out the less high security prisoner movements.

A few years ago, that could be explained away as Prescott's pie lorry.

Can't think what they use it for now.

Don't think it was a prisoner transfer. The LGV wasn't the type to carry people. It had a lowish roof and shutters on the side.

If it's atomic and it could be you will have an armed guard with it.

Normal prison transfer is capped at 70mph.

Having worked in close proximity to the nuclear convoy fleet im confident
it was not them.
